A-Hole Encounter

A-Hole Encounter

DAY 43 since school closed.

DAY 33 of “stay at home” order.

Weather was great today! Took the kids for a long walk to our community park. It’s a private park. You must have a key to access it. No one was there. So, the girls went wild while Butter and I played horseshoes. It was a nice break from our same daily routine. During our walk back home, we encountered an older gent walking his dog with a beer in hand. He decided to give us a brief education on how higher unemployment numbers increase the suicide rate. And his dog pooped right in front of us and he didn’t pick it up! Thanks a lot ASSHOLE! The rest of the journey home consisted of the question, “What is suicide?”

Now I have been dodging the “Mom, how do you get the baby out of your belly,” for the last few weeks, but the suicide one was something different. I went on to explain that sometimes people have a lot of sadness and it makes them sick. When that happens, sometimes they die. That was good enough for now. The girls were satisfied with the answer. I’m all about talking about feelings but talking about death and actually killing yourself with a four-year old is not appropriate in my viewpoint.

And don’t worry, I didn’t call the guy an asshole or anything. We were very sensitive that he might be going through a rough patch. We just said, “And we should pray for all those who have lost their jobs.”

That reminds me of a time when I was at Marshall’s. Oh, the good ol’days of going to Marshall’s to touch and feel all those fabulous things. Anyway, this lady went crazy on me in the checkout line. Not sure why. She called me every name in the book for absolutely no reason. Got right into my face. Total nut job! The employees were talking about calling 9-1-1. That’s how insane it was! I kept my composure the whole time. Did my deep breathing techniques and went to my happy place in my mind (tropical beach). When she was done, she was yelling, “Well! What do you have to say for yourself?” I finally broke down and said, “I’ll pray for you.” It always leaves people speechless.

Back to today. I went on a brief road trip to Target! It was AMAZING! Everyone was wearing masks and the checkout line was sanitized after every user. The best part…I found Extra Toasty Cheez-its!!!!! And I horded them. Bought four boxes. The extra bonus find was my chai tea. Then I arrived home to the most beautiful sunflowers on the front porch. I guess I have a secret admirer. Ha! Mama is happy! Life is good. God is good.

Today’s summary report:
• Suicide and unemployment go hand-in-hand. A brief article, by a professional, can be found here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/acquainted-the-night/202003/will-covid-19-make-the-suicide-crisis-worse. • If you are passing a family with young children, please be courteous. Watch your language and your feeble-minded stats you just blurt out of your drunken mouth.
• I’m thankful for being a person who is very careful about what I say when I’m drunk. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
• Lots of boats are in the water today!
• Friends with second homes took off for the Up North.
• Had fun last night leaving messages of love for neighbors in driveways with chalk and on some lawns with glow sticks.
• Love our community! Everyone is keeping other’s spirits up by dropping off puzzles, wine, flowers, and other yummy drink concoctions. Truly blessed to be surrounded by so much love!

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 37,203

Dreams

Dreams

DAY 41 since school closed.

DAY 31 of “stay at home” order.

Last night, I had another crazy “COVID-19” dream. The aliens had encompassed the Earth with their spaceships. There was only one human being on the entire planet that could understand and speak to the impending, space invaders and that person was Blondie, our four-year old daughter. Yes, Blondie could speak fluent alien and translate for all the world to know that the aliens caused the COVID-19 pandemic. She also informed us that the aliens were surprised the Earthlings didn’t have a higher death rate and will now have to physically attack the Earth for her natural resources.

At that point in the dream I realized it was a dream and told myself to wake-up. I love Blondie, but there’s no way that Peppa Pig loving, British accent speaking, American girl could understand the aliens. “Mummy, I need a plaster cast.” Good bloody hell. Ha!

Saving the World!

Having dreams during this insane time is not unusual. Darling Dear has nightmares of loved ones being very sick. Since the pandemic started, the number of people searching on Google for answers to their crazy dreams has quadrupled. This makes me feel more “normal.” Reports suggest the dreams are caused by number of reasons: social distancing, anxiety, stress, and increase usage of alcohol and marijuana. People are sharing their dreams on social media. They range from something straight out of Hunger Games to attending a rave party.

So what kind of crazy dreams have you experienced? You can share them through Lock Down Mama’s History Project at https://lockdownmama.wordpress.com/history-project/.

Today’s summary report:
• 24 percent of Michigan’s labor force is unemployed. That is Great DEPRESSION era numbers! Scares me more than the virus does.
• Why when I drink wine, I talk more sophisticated? With a wee bit of a British accent? So posh.
• There appears to be an uptick in the numbers. Some people are screaming conspiracy theories. There’s a lot of theories out there. Just ask Professor Google.
• The plot is set. There seems to be a political battle heating up in Michigan. The Republican majority lead Legislature is looking to reduce the Democratic Governor’s Executive Order privileges. Time for some popcorn!
• Some predict a longer stay-at-home order coming while others want a more rationalized re-opening of the state. Probably will find out next week.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 35,291
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 6,634
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 2,977

Liberties

April 21, 2020

Liberties

DAY 39 since school closed.

DAY 29 of “stay at home” order.

Today was all about work and school. We have incorporated “word of the day” to build everyone’s vocabulary in the house. Yesterday was the word, liberty. Today was the word, responsibility.

Liberty:  the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.

Responsibility:  the state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something.

After reading today’s news, it seems some people feel their “liberty” is at stake. I do not. When you use the two words of liberty and responsibility together, you create a view that is needed for this particular time in history. We have the liberty in this country to disobey whatever executive orders are handed down from the president or governor. We also have a responsibility to keep from doing harm to others. It is difficult to give up freedoms, even if it’s just for a short period of time. But ask yourself, are you giving up a true freedom or are you postponing a convenience that you desire?

Personally, I miss my boat, but the weather is so bad I would not be using it. Today was windy and cold with snow! To give up my boating in order to have this whole lock down bullshit over with, is something I feel is a responsibility to do. Everyone is getting stir-crazy or cabin fever. Keeping Americans “locked-up” in their homes is creating a pressure cooker that is at the point of eruption. It is a difficult thing for us to do – to just stay home. We are so used to being in automobiles and hitting the open road to go anywhere we desire. But let us try to hold on a bit longer so this pandemic can keep turning downward. Just a little longer. We can do it!

Today’s summary report:
• Funny news of the day is about how farts may spread the coronavirus: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11401962/doctor-coronavirus-spreading-farts/
• Tired of seeing ads for designer face-wear on my computer.
• Also tired of seeing ads for bras on Facebook. Especially when the women are like a double D-cup. Hello?! I’m like a triple A-cup – like the thinnest pancake you’ve ever seen with a chocolate chip on top.
• Be careful reading the news. Watch the dates and timelines. You would be surprise at how many stories are from previous years being used to help someone get their point across.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 32,967
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 6,306
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 2,700

A Good Day

April 20, 2020

Good Day

DAY 38 since school closed.

DAY 28 of “stay at home” order.

Today was a good day! Both Darling Dear and I were able to accomplish a lot of work today. The girls were absolutely fabulous! It seems we are falling into a Monday through Friday routine. From 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM is work. From 10:00 AM to Noon is school. Then lunch and recess for an hour or two. From about 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM is more work for mom and dad. The girls get “educational” free time, which includes education games on their tablets or watching educational documentaries. Okay…that’s a lie. They just do whatever they want so we can get more work done. Ha!

It’s very exciting to receive submissions for the Lock Down Mama History Project! Thank you to everyone who are sending submissions of their COVID-19 experiences. If you wish to help preserve history please go to www.lockdownmama.wordpress.com/history-project and share your story.

It feels so good to get all this work done today. The girls deserve a “Mama’s Money” bonus. Blessed.

Also, I notice that when I do not read the news or social media that my spirits are much higher throughout the day. Go figure!

Roller Coaster

April 19, 2020

Roller Coaster

DAY 37 since school closed.

DAY 27 of “stay at home” order.

Over 2.3 million people worldwide are or have been infected with COVID-19. 162,000 dead. Among the states, Michigan is ranked fifth for highest number of confirmed cases and third for most deaths. People are now questioning if this is as serious as they say. They compare numbers of COVID deaths to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and suicide rates.

The Spanish Flu in 1918 infected over 500 million people worldwide with total deaths between 17 million and 50 million. So is this COVID-19 as bad? I have no idea. Why? Well, I’ve been stuck at home for the past 37 days! Maybe it’s a good thing since no one in this house is sick. I have no idea. I’m not an expert.

Here’s what I do know:  I’m tired of trying to make everyone in this house happy. No matter what I do or for whom, it upsets someone else in this house. If I give a compliment to one of my daughters, then the other daughter gets upset that I didn’t say something nice to her as well at that same moment. If I take a moment to just relax, I get some sort of passive-aggressive guilt trip from Darling Dear about not paying attention to one of the girls or whatever. I can’t even poop alone! It’s to the point that my body will now poop at 4:00 AM because it’s the only time I can ever be in the bathroom by MYSELF!

You know what this whole ordeal is like? It’s like a rollercoaster. Your emotions are up and down and all around. Some points during the day, I’m on the verge of crying. Other times I just want to scream, “LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!” So many things I want to say but my filter is on. Well, obviously, if Darling Dear reads this then the bird is out of cage. Is that even the right expression to say? I’m going with it. And I know I haven’t been nice at times either. Sorry.

You have happy moments when you think, “I’m so blessed.” But ten minutes later, you want to down a bottle of wine to make it all better. Am I the only one feeling like this? If I am, then I have some serious issues. But I already knew that. Ha!

All I can do is pray for extra patience during this time. Pray for a calm and peaceful deposition. I get it, we are all stressing out. Letting our pent-up aggressions explode onto our loved ones is not the answer but often the case. So how do you deal with it? How do you get through this “lockdown” with mental stability? Perhaps, I am just being a selfish, spoiled brat. I just wanted to write this all down for historical purposes. It’s just how I feel.

If you want to help preserve history, please submit your experiences during the COVID-19 crisis/pandemic. I released this site early today, but the questionnaire was all screwed up. Stupid me! It’s fixed now. Go to https://lockdownmama.wordpress.com/history-project/ to participate. I appreciate it very much. Turning this whole thing into a history project.

Today’s summary report:

• Someone had the balls to call the police on a neighbor for using their boat on this little, private lake. You’re not suppose to use motorized vehicles under the governor’s order. From what I gathered, the police made them pull the boat out of the water, even though they have a dock for it on their own property. Why? Why would you do this to someone who is just minding their own business, trying to relax and fish on a beautiful Sunday? I’m totally shocked!
• Been trying to read a book all day. I’m on page 5. Fuck it.
• Haven’t seen that almighty stimulus check.
• Hoping for some small business funds to come through soon. Fingers-crossed.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 31,424
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 6,109
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 2,392
• Total recoveries in Michigan: 3,237

Be Polite

April 17, 2020

Be Polite

DAY 35 since school closed.

DAY 25 of “stay at home” order.

It was a busy day. I didn’t have time to really think of topic to blog about.

I do know I’m tired of the constant bickering on social media. Where are my center of the universe friends? The people who have a filter. Where are the decent, polite people of this world? I’ll tell you where. The grocery store.

Went on the prowl today for goods at our local one-stop shop. Everyone in the store was extremely patient and kind. People were saying, “Sorry, excuse me,” if they came within six feet of you. Everyone respected each other. The cashier was a total delight. I shopped for enough supplies for three weeks. To help, I organized everything onto the conveyor belt by how they should be bagged for an easier experience and even retrieved a second cart because we were going to need it. No issues. No politics. No fights. It was the most relaxing experience.

For the first time since the stay-at-home notice I found everything on my grocery list! Even bleach! I am very excited I can keep my tidey-whitey’s white. I even snagged four rolls of toilet paper. Apparently the T.P. wasn’t good enough for one man, he declared, “that crap is thinner than thin and won’t wipe shit.” I found it all very amusing. We Americans are very spoiled by all the choices at the grocery store we have had in the past.

Today’s summary report:
• Darling Dear talked to a lot of our clients and it sounds we have very loyal clients who are excited to get back into the studio. Now if one of the small business grants/loans would just come through.
• If you call yourself a Christian, please act like one on social media and respect other people’s opinions in a polite matter.
• Going to work on this blog becoming bigger. Thinking of ways to ask for everyone’s story across the country to help preserve history more. Stay tuned.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 30,023
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 5,901
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 2,227

Butter

April 16, 2020

Butter

DAY 34 since school closed.

DAY 24 of “stay at home” order.

To preserve history during this crazy event, today I interviewed Butter, my 20-year old son. He is currently an apprentice with a major auto parts manufacturer in Metro Detroit in the area of product design. The apprenticeship includes paid work and paid tuition. We are extremely proud of him! It’s not easy to make a decision of going the “trade” route for a career when schools pressure you to go the more traditional four-year degree college route.

Q:  Who is your favorite person?

A:  My mother because she’s forcing me to say it’s her.

Q:  What do you like to do at home during the Coronavirus outbreak?

A:  Playing video games. Happy? At least I’m telling the truth.

Q:  What don’t you like about being stuck at home all this time?

A:  I can’t go out. I can’t go to the store. I can’t go nowhere.

Q:  What is the Coronavirus?

A:  Something about bats, China and anyone over the age of 50 is pretty much done for if they get it. Their lungs get all funny. You may think it’s a cold or the flu but before you know it…your dead.

Q:  Does the Coronavirus scare you?

A:  No.

Q:  Why does it not scare you?

A:  It’s spooky because we are in a hot zone but everyone in the house is social distancing and doing things in a very safe way. Like when mom goes grocery shopping, she leaves the groceries in the garage for like three days and still disinfects everything.

Q:  What is your favorite show to watch right now?

A:  Tiger King. I can’t believe I just admitted that.

Q:  How has the Coronavirus changed your Monday-Friday routine?

A:  A lot. I usually go to work and/or school. At least I’m saving money and miles on my truck. I’m a bit bothered that I can’t do in-person classes, like with my Trig class. It makes learning difficult. All the colleges are trying to finish the semester online.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus affects your little sister, Blondie?

A:  She’s gets emotional when she sees her friend, Chatty Cathy, and can’t play with her. It’s heartbreaking.

Q:  Do you think the Coronavirus affects your sister, Peanut?

A:  Drastically. She loves school and not being able to go to school is very emotional for her. She cries more and gets upset with the new virtual learning she has to do now.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus is affecting your parents?

A:  I’m not so sure. Sometimes it seems like a regular day, but it seems like they are working even more. Mom is home more now, obviously. It’s weird having them home all the time. Usually they would be working at their jobs and then handling their small business. I’m sure it’s stressful to juggle work and the school stuff for the girls at the same time.

Q:  Do you think your parents are drinking more?

A:  Ha! I think it’s the same.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus affects your friends?

A:  Well the ones that I usually play video games with, I don’t think it changes much. We actually like being home for the most part. My other friends it’s a freaking bummer. The friends who were living on college campuses are missing out on being a college student. I envy the college life but I chose a different route of an apprenticeship. I miss visiting my college friends. It was a way for me to act my age I guess.

Q:  When the Coronavirus is over, what’s the first thing you want to do?

A:  I would like to travel. Anywhere. Anywhere that is not in this house.

Q:  How do you see the future now?

A:  I think there will be changes in how we work and go to school. I don’t know. Maybe everyone has to wear a mask or something.

Q:  How would you rate your knowledge of the Coronavirus on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being expert level?

A:  4

Q:  What is social distancing?

A:  You have to be six feet away from people.

Q:  Can you get the virus by pumping gas?

A:  If you don’t wash your hands… yes.

Today’s summary report:
• Mom Law went into effect today! If you want something, you have to earn Mama’s Money. So far, it’s been amazing. The girls have left us alone and a lot of work got done today. They even did their schoolwork without whining. Hoping to get a few days of excellent behavior with this tactic. Ha!

• My eye contacts arrived! I can see again!
• The small business funds promised to people who own small business, like us, has ran out of money. We did not receive any small business relief help and everyone we know with a small business did not receive any help. So where did all the money go?
• One million are jobless in Michigan.
• Some people think the media has hyped-up the COVID-19 numbers. I find the media numbers to be inline with government numbers. We have more cases in this country because of increased testing and we are probably more transparent than the rest of the world.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 29,263
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 5,778
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 1,921

A:  Playing school and putting on make-up.

A:  I miss getting McDonald’s and playing with Chatty Cathy.

Q:  What is the Coronavirus?

A:  Something that makes you sick. It’s germs.

Q:  Does the Coronavirus scare you?

A:  No.

Q:  Why does it not scare you?

A:  Because my family loves me.

A:  I want to go to Chatty Cathy’s house!

Q:  What’s your subject in school?

A:  Math. Because you can learn more of it.

Q:  What’s your favorite book?

A:  Anything Peppa Pig.

• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 1,921

Peanut

April 14, 2020

Peanut

DAY 32 since school closed.

DAY 22 of “stay at home” order.

To preserve history during this crazy event, today I interviewed Peanut, my bright, witty and caring seven-year old who is in the second grade.

Q:  Who is your favorite person?

A:  My mom, because she’s sitting right here in front of me.

Q:  Name three things you like about being home with your family during the past month at home.

A:  Get to spend more time with my family. Get to play outside a whole lot more. Get to learn more things like how to knit, how to fish, how to cook, play cool games online, how to do math differently, and we learn differently with our teacher by going on the computer now.

Q:  Name three things you don’t like about being home this past month.

A:  I want to see my friends and play with them. I want to go back to school. I want to see my teachers again.

Q:  How do you feel about the Coronavirus?

A:  I hate it because well you can’t go back to school or go shopping with mom.

Q:  Does the Coronavirus scare you?

A:  Not at all.

Q:  Why does it not scare you?

A:  Because we are inside and safe. There’s nothing to be really worried about.

Q:  Do you interact with your friends at all?

A:  Yes. I get to talk to my friends on the computer and I get to go on our rowboat and kayak and say hi to all my friends who live around me.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus affects your little sister, Blondie?

A:  Well, I think it’s affecting her because she can’t play with her friend Chatty Cathy. She can see her house and see her playing outside and it really upsets her because she can’t go over and play.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus affects your brother, Butter?

A:  I think it’s not affecting him because he likes to sleep in and be on his computer.

Q:  How do you think the Coronavirus if affecting your parents?

A: For Mom, she probably doesn’t like this because she works from home now and misses her office and her Starbucks. For Dad, I’m not sure. He’s a very mysterious person.

Q:  When the Coronavirus is over, what’s the first thing you want to do?

A:  I’m going to ask my parents if I can kayak to Chatty Cathy’s house and play with her and her older sister, Giggles, for a very, very long time.

Q:  What’s your subject in school?

A:  Reading because I love to read and it makes you smarter.

Q:  Last question, what’s your least favorite subject in school?

A:  Math because it’s boring.

Today’s summary report:
• I can work and be productive until 11:00 AM. Then it’s hit or miss.
• I miss my friends!
• Blondie pretends to shop for new houses and wants a tour of our home before she decides to buy it. She also seems to have more than one set of parents now because she has lengthy pretend phone conversations with them. Peanut asked me if I’m concerned and said, “Not yet.” Oh! Blondie also apparently has a jet pack.
• Michigan’s COVID-19 curve not flattening yet. Hopefully we are reaching the peak of it all this week. Big spike in numbers today. Please just stay at home.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 27,001
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 5,364
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 1,768

Virtual School

April 13, 2020

Virtual School

DAY 31 since school closed.

DAY 21 of “stay at home” order.

“Darling Dear, did you pay the electric bill?” Woke up about 3:00 AM-ish to the buzzing sound of a generator. The power was out for most, if not all, of the neighborhood. For the first time ever, I reported a power outage. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to make it known we didn’t have power. Got a text back from DTE Energy that the power will be restored by 6:15 AM. Even received a text that it was due to equipment problems. I guess the transformer blew. Probably was a squirrel.

Happy to have the power back because today was the first day of virtual school. Started with a Google Meet with Peanut’s teacher and second grade classmates. By the end of the thirty-minute scheduled meeting it appeared most of the class was getting the hang of virtual conferencing. Welcome to the real world!

In our house, we decided to have Peanut take the lead in her education. I printed off all the worksheets for the week and wrote down the websites for the online learning. Peanut must pick four worksheets and one website a day. Things went smoothly today. Even got a lot of work done.

Nothing else to write about. Work-School-Wine-Repeat.

Today’s summary report:
• Very windy today.
• Ham and bean soup is cooking.
• Board games are in full effect.
• Girls new “witching hour” seems to be between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM now. Perfect time for a mid-afternoon wine.
• Beaumont Health reports 1,543 COVID-19 discharges.
• Henry Ford Health reports 1,313 COVID-19 discharges.

The below numbers are according to news source WDIV:
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan: 24,638
• Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oakland County: 4,915
• Total deaths due to COVID-19 in Michigan: 1,487
